Main Street USA

My favorite spot in all of Walt Disney World is not a ride or restaurant…it is Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom!  This was the inspiration for my blog name.  Most of the time, you will see the crowd rushing down the street to get to the castle or hurrying off to their favorite ride.  However, I like to try to start my Magic Kingdom day off a different way.  Take your time soaking in the sights, sounds and smells of Main Street.  You may stop and see the barbershop quartet, The Dapper Dan’s, perform a song and dance, or the Main Street trolley passing through.  Each store window along the street is perfectly set with different theming.

The Main Street vehicles, a series of vintage cars, pass through and Citizens of Main Street are street performers that many visitors often miss.  You can stop and get your picture with the Mayor of Main Street.  These characters are fun to interact with but check the times guide when you enter the park, because you will not find them out later in the day.

If you are in a hurry, the stores along Main Street can actually serve as a shortcut.  Although it looks like little shops all next to each other, they are all connected. This means that while everyone is walking down the middle of the street towards the castle, you can go into the first corner shop and walk all the way through until you come out by Casey’s Corner.

But, if you have the time, listen to the music, smell the scents of the Main Street Confectionary or the scent of waffle cones by the Ice Cream shop, and look at the detail of the shops along Main Street.  The inspiration for this turn of the 20th century area was Walt’s home town of Marceline, Missouri.  It is certainly Disney’s version of the picturesque American hometown.

If you like to start your day with a little coffee, Main Street Bakery houses a Starbucks, where you can utilize your dining plan snack credits to start the day off right with your favorite latte. But hey you’re on vacation, so why not head to the ice cream shop and order a waffle cone for breakfast.
