Dinner at California Grill

One of my favorite places to eat outside of the parks is California Grill, located at the Contemporary Resort.  This restaurant is located on the 15th floor of the resort.

In addition to delicious food and drink options (I had the seared scallops and Crème Brulee for dessert), there is another benefit to dining here…a beautiful view of Magic Kingdom!

This restaurant location is nicer than what you might find in the parks, so if you are looking for a date night or an opportunity to dress up a little bit in Disney, this is a top pick!

I love the sense of nostalgia when visiting California Grill.  While the restaurant has certainly undergone changes and refurbishments, as you sip your cucumber martini and look out over Seven Seas Lagoon, you feel a connection to the history of those dining there on opening day;  October 1, 1971, when it was known as The Top of the World restaurant.

There is a wall of windows with a view throughout your meal, and you can also step outside onto the rooftop terrace and view the fireworks at the end of the night.  If your dinner is earlier in the evening, just save your receipt and you will be allowed back up the elevator to go for the firework viewing.

Since the change from Wishes to the Happily Ever After firework show in 2017, this viewing location has changed a little bit.   Now that the new show has a lot of focus around the castle projections, you of course will not really get to see that part by  watching from the rooftop.  However, a view of the park lit up and night as the fireworks are released is still breathtaking.

This is a Signature Dining location- which means two credits if you are using the Disney Dining plan-but I think it is definitely worth it!

Have you had a meal at the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill? What is your favorite menu item?
